There are so many apps available these days. You can search for almost any topic and find at least one app for it. The one kind of app I have always been searching for and testing out is a good chore app. I have tried so many! Most of them cause me to feel overwhelmed after putting chores into the app because I just end up with an impossibly long list of overdue chores! The list is overwhelmingly long, and I feel like a failure for not having done even a tenth of the list!
One of the key features I always look for in a chore app is the ability to pre-schedule the chores. It takes a lot more time to initially set up because it’s not just about putting the chores into the app. You also need to schedule them. If you can take your time to preplan the chore schedule, then it’s easier to put it all into the app. My favourite thing about scheduled chores is that each day, there may only be 5-10 chores to do, but throughout the week, month, or year, you work through that whole impossibly long list! It breaks up the big to-do list and makes it much easier for my brain to get on board. Even if I miss something from the list one week, it will come up again so that it doesn’t go a year or more before I force myself to actually do it again.
The app I have recently discovered is Nipto. It’s available on the Google Play Store or the Apple Store, and it is relatively easy to use – there have been a couple of growing pains. One of my favourite features of the app is that you can set it up as a game with whoever else lives in the same house – whether that’s kids, roommates, or even just you and your spouse.
In the app, you need to add all the chores you want to add, assign the chore a point value for its completion, and then schedule it. You can either assign the task to a specific person or assign it to everyone, and as soon as someone does it, they get the points. There are two ways to play. You can either have it be the most points wins each week, or each player has to reach a minimum points goal for the week. You can even preset rewards to pick from right in the app! Another great feature is that you can tell your ‘Alexa’ device that you have completed the chore – so exciting for the kids! The app is super fun and cartoony, which I also love!
For some of the features, there is a small fee, but you can mostly use the app for FREE! It’s worth giving it a try through August and see if it works for you. Who knows, maybe your house can stay tidy AND clean throughout the school year with everyone competing for the most points!
It does take a bit of time to figure out all the features of the app, but some playing around with it will help you figure it out with trial and error. Chances are, I have already stumbled through any trouble you may have so, feel free to leave me a comment below with your problems. Nipto also has a question and feedback area in the settings of the app.
Do you use an app for your household chores? Do you have a different method for getting everyone to work together? Let me know what your favourite system is!
