October is such a fun month. I love the fall colours on the trees, I love pumpkin spice flavoured (almost) anything, and I love the cool temperatures that allow me to wear sweaters and vests!
I also sometimes think that October feels like the calm before the storm. I feel like we jump from Halloween to Christmas in our house, basically as fast as the summer disappears.
Over the last few years, without even really realizing it, I have used October to get bedrooms in order for the upcoming chaos and rooms around the house ready to receive that ‘Christmas just threw up all over the house again’ look.
It’s what October is all about!
Bedrooms and main living areas!
Use the month to try to spend as much time decluttering these areas as possible – knowing that there will be a slight influx of stuff at Christmas (or if you have any fall birthdays in your homes).
Decluttering the bedrooms is a great task at this time of year. For kids, it helps them clear a space for homework, or hobby projects. For adults, it helps to create a safe calm space for retreating and recharging as necessary between now and Christmas.
Decluttering the main spaces means that as you change out or add various seasonal decor items around the house, it may not feel as cluttered as it actually is. It’s also great to focus some time on decluttering the living spaces so that you can be proud to have anyone over on a moment’s notice – especially if they are bringing along with them a pumpkin spice latte!
It’s amazing how much just telling yourself what areas to focus on through the month really do make you work harder on that space. It’s sort of like repeating affirmations to yourself. What goes on in your head eventually shows itself outwardly in your home or body.
So pace yourself this month. It’s a lot of spaces to cover. Bedrooms and living spaces! We got this!
