Use November to prep your surfaces for holiday decorations. Sort through all of your paper and get it off those surfaces once and for all!
If you are someone to have paper items fill up your spaces, limit your sorting options!
Try these piles: File, Recycle, Shred.
Use this system for any piece of paper. Giving yourself fewer ways of labeling your paper piles means that you will be able to make quicker decisions with the paper items.
If you start adding piles like cute notes, kid’s artwork, keepsake paper, etc. you can quickly get in over your head. Then you will end up with a number of piles that you can’t really take action on. Sure, you may keep some items on the wall or in a filing cabinet, but those decisions are not for right now. Right now, it’s just about quickly determining if you are keeping the paper or getting rid of it, either by recycling or shredding! Make it easier for yourself and stick to the labels!
Keep to the three headings. Limit your options. It makes your decisions easier and quicker to make!
The file pile can easily become long winded to sort through. Set yourself a timer, and do just 10 minutes per day until it’s done and dealt with. Short bursts will make you feel like it’s easier to manage! Plus, you will feel like you are making progress every day! Who doesn’t love progress!?
Think quick to get to the bottom of all that paper! Once you have it sorted, don’t forget about the system! Go through all paper piles once per week to be sure it doesn’t get so far out of hand again!!

Good advice before the Christmas onslaught.
