Rather than setting up a massive or endless to do list of tasks, create habits for yourself and check them off using a habit tracker!
Giving yourself a task like ‘tidy the kitchen’; seems well and good if it’s already mostly tidy, but what about when it’s overwhelming? Having a vague task like tidy the kitchen can be so overwhelming to do that you don’t even get started, and then it becomes a bigger disaster to tackle another day.
Try instead to tell yourself to tidy the kitchen for 10 minutes! Set yourself a time and just see what you can get done in that time! Suddenly, at the end of those 10 minutes, you feel like a winner and, like you ACTUALLY accomplished something. Whereas with the task of tidying the kitchen, you could have spent all day puttering around in the kitchen then, at the end of it all, still had a big mess to clean.
Using habits can boost your confidence and productivity! Task work can cause you to become more deflated about your to do list because not only are there too many items on the list, but each task may seem impossible.
Tackling the house clutter and disarray using time based habits can give you the positive mindset that you are able to tackle mess, clutter, and disorganization bit by bit! No one has to do it all at once.
Find your favourite habit tracker and make a list of a few areas that are causing you the most stress. Maybe it’s the front hall, so write a habit to spend 5 minutes tidying the front hall before bed. Maybe it’s the kitchen, so you write a habit to tidy up what you can in 10 minutes after lunch. Maybe it’s the laundry, so again, create a habit in your list for folding and putting away clean laundry for 10 minutes. I know these timelines won’t get the whole job done. BUT, it does help tackle the job, even when the job seems impossible.
That’s what tracking your habits helps with. It’s about conquering the task despite the task being huge and insurmountable. It tackles the job just a little bit at a time!
You don’t have to work on things for endless hours. Just work bit by bit. It will definitely save your sanity, and eventually, you will see the results you seek! Just stay the course, and trust the process!
Pick your habits and pick your timelines, then stick with it!

I like the idea of consistent small chunks of time – not so overwhelming.

I could not agree more! I hate big huge to do lists – it’s easy to get stuck in the failure attitude because you didn’t cross everything off that day! Thanks for sharing.
