Fun sized jobs to kill the mess!

Ok, so following my post from Wednesday about how you are being overstimulated by your messy house, I have some help to offer!

In my last post, I laid out all of the reasons why your mess is overstimulating you and causing you to feel overwhelmed and stressed simply by you living in a messy house, but I did not offer a real way of fixing it in a way that doesn’t add a whole other layer of stress!

Hence, my fun sized jobs post today!

The idea behind a fun sized job is that it feels 1000% doable and easy! So here we go!

A fun sized job is a way of working on your house on a micro scale that anyone can do, EVEN IF THEY HAVE NO TIME!!!!!

It’s no lie that I love timers. I think they are great motivators to get things done and to put some pressure on your time so that you can work harder and faster and then relax and enjoy life more.

So, a fun sized job is going to help you do just that. I will give fair warning, depending on how messy your house is – this is NOT a quick fix or an overnight solution. BUT, over time, this will for sure give you the results you are hoping for.

So, finally, a fun sized job requires two minutes. That’s it! Only two minutes. This is for smaller day to day tasks that don’t get prioritized simply because the rest of the house is so messy that you have that ‘why bother try’ feeling.

This is for things like straightening up the front door area – two minutes can allow you to hang coats, put away shoes or line them up, deal with any papers for recycling or action, and even give you time to spritz an air freshener!

How about wiping the table and chairs – work fast but efficiently and you can have a nice clean table in two minutes! You can even find a center piece like a vase and a fake flower to fancy things up!

See if you can empty or fill the dishwasher in two minutes.

A fun sized job is meant to help you with that sense of doom or that feeling of ‘there’s no point’. If you’re so stuck that you can’t even see any fun sized jobs that you can do in your space, check out my printable at the end of this post! There’s something for everyone!

If you can just commit to completing 3-4 fun sized jobs every day, eventually, you will find the energy to do a bigger job in an evening or the weekend. That bigger job will eventually help you to stick with it all.

When everything is overwhelming, you need to start small, otherwise, you won’t start at all. The fun sized jobs get you over that initial energy hump. Little bits over time, eventually give you the sense of satisfaction and the pride of putting in the effort to your home. You do see results fast! In just two minutes! This makes you want to put in more effort, which creates the positive cycle of trying a little bit at a time. The fun sized jobs are essentially the foundation of creating the energy within you to change the mess in the house.

Two minutes is easy! It’s only two minutes! You can do almost anything for two minutes, right?? Try it now. Just look around you, set a timer, and see what you can do!

You need to constantly remind yourself that you are trying to create peace, not chaos. Make it your mantra until you truly feel it in your home! Use two minutes at a time to get there!

Thanks for coming home!
