Time for date night!
Get your household together or just you and your partner and sit down with your calendar. Grab a different coloured pen for each person in the household, grab some water and your favourite snack, and start planning!
Start by filling in all the important dates that you know about right now. Think school dates, travel dates, important work dates, social commitments, and dates for extracurricular activities! Try to add as many activities as you know absolute dates and times for.
After getting all the important things on your calendar, add some fluff. Add something, either a day trip or an overnight getaway each month in the empty spaces. There doesn’t have to be dates associated with it. This will act as a getaway goal for the month. It can either be a reminder to book it in for the next month or a reminder to do it in the month it’s written for. If your kids have away tournaments for sports or other activities, you could look up something fun to do in that town for your getaway goal, afterall you are already away!
Another thing I like to add as a goal on my calendar is a social visit with a good friend. Each month, I will write the name of a friend on my calendar and, again, not on a specific date. (I love using the blank spaces before the month starts or after the month ends on my paper calendar) I love putting this on my calendar because then I can prioritize planning some of my coffee dates otherwise life just seems to go by too fast!
I also use some of my September calendar time to look ahead at upcoming birthday gifts that I need to buy or plan for. I try to think ahead to the following February so that I don’t need to think about birthday gifts while also planning Christmas gifts!
Resetting the routines and commitments in September has always felt like a fresh start! Why not plan ahead a little and be more prepared for the upcoming chaos!
