Get rid of “just in case” things!

To really declutter all of the nooks and crannies in your home, get rid of all of the ‘just in case’ things – or at least half of all of them!

There are always so many things that you can find in your home that you are keeping ‘just in case’ something comes up, something breaks, or you need some random thing down the road.

There’s no need to keep all of those ‘just in case’ items!

Granted, you may have some pushback here. I recognize that having a few easy gifts to pull out of a closet somewhere is a life saver at times and cost effective, might I add. And, yes, you may need a random screw once in a while or a not-everyday tool to fix this or that! Every person has specific things that they keep ‘just in case’. What one person deems important enough to keep is different from another person.

My challenge to you, though…

Is to actually look at the clutter that you are keeping for ‘just in case’. Analyze it!! Do you think, in this lifetime, that it is at all likely that you will actually use it? Do you still do the hobby that uses it? Do you still need that broken part in case another thing breaks? Do you need that extra kitchen tool in case the one you’re using gets lost or broken? Do you really need your fancy set of dishes in case you have a big crowd over for a fancy dinner? Do you really need that old cell phone and/or charger???

Any time you are decluttering, thoroughly look through your ‘just in case stuff’. You may not even think of it as ‘just in case’ because it sits tucked away in whatever spot it’s in. If you are going on vacation, think about things like beach bags or travel accessories. Do you really need it all? Do you have it ‘just in case’ you go on a specific trip related to that specific item? Can you use something else instead?

I am sure you will find all kinds of ‘just in case’ items around your home. These ‘just in case’ items are adding weight to all the clutter in your home! I mean, you don’t even have a solid purpose for keeping it, other than ‘just in case’ you need it one day, want to look at it in the future, or maybe you want to share it with your kids when they become adults. Just question why you are keeping it and if it’s truly worth keeping!

Keeping things ‘just in case’ means that you don’t have a real plan for that item. Those ‘just in case’ things may be taking up the valuable space that you feel like you don’t have in your home today!

Thanks for coming home!
