Clutter is clutter!

Just because your clutter is organized, it doesn’t mean that it’s not still clutter. It’s still taking up space, and if it’s something you no longer need or use, it should probably get out of your home.

Sure, maybe the clutter looks like it belongs because it has a space in your home, but if it’s not adding any benefit to your life, then it still falls in the category of clutter. Or the category of getting in the way of the life you want!

It’s why ongoing decluttering is so important.

Sometimes, areas of the house can go untouched for a period of time, and those rooms are where clutter can easily hide on a shelf in the way of books or decor items. If you don’t go through the stuff in these rooms, it’s not the end of the world – I mean, it all looks nice still on that shelf! But, how many times do you change up the books you’re interested in. Having some space on your bookshelf to cycle through different books might give you some flexibility over what you read. It may sound silly, but it might actually give you a sense of freedom next time you’re at a book fair, library, or even if a friend drops off a book that ‘you just have to read!!!”

It’s in these little moments when a new thing comes into your house that gives you freedom or stress! Adding one more thing might be great because you still have room for it. Or, it might be the thing that makes you boil over with stress because everything in the house has to shift just to accommodate that extra thing. If it causes everything to shift, you need to decide what’s worth keeping!

Even a coffee table with a few decorations on it. What would you prefer? Have it empty so that you can put your feet up or bring a snack out to serve easily? Have it set up with a candle or centerpiece and a few strategically placed coffee table books or magazines?

Ask yourself what’s more work or what’s more worth it. Everyone has their preference, and everyone is willing to sacrifice their time differently.

Often, though, remind yourself that less is more. No need to dust the magazines if they’re not there. No need to replace flowers in a centerpiece if there’s not one there. Just a quick wipe of an empty coffee table might be more worth your time!

Everything you own is a choice. Clutter is clutter. Some clutter you will find joy in keeping that others won’t understand, and other clutter, you will not be able to imagine why someone would keep it! You get to decide.

Even if it’s organized, though, it doesn’t mean that it’s adding true value to your life. Clutter is clutter.

You are always one choice or one action away from choosing your clutter or getting rid of your clutter.

Thanks for coming home!
