Toiletries, medicine, and other bathroom stuff!

When the seasons change, I find that I also tend to change up my hair routine. I have wavy/frizzy hair, so in the summer, it’s a frizz ball. In the winter wet snow or under a hat, it’s a frizz ball. BUT, in the spring and fall, I can actually decide if I want to enhance my curls or straighten them out, AND it generally, predictably stays that way until the next wash! So, I always find myself rearranging my hair care products and appliances as the seasons change. Which means it opens up the door for decluttering! I use it as an excuse to sort through hair products that I didn’t like at any time in the year or appliances that never really worked properly.

Because I’m already in the bathroom, I use the time to stretch my decluttering reach into other toiletries like, body lotions, shampoos and conditioners, soaps, and relaxing bath related things like old epsom salts or bath bombs. It feels good to conquer the bathroom spaces in the fall, especially because bath time can be so cozy on a cold night. Knowing that you have stuff you are actually excited to use, and getting rid of the stuff you don’t want to use ever, means that it’s easy to pull out what you need as the bathtub fills without needing to dig through and create a mess in the process. Since your stuff is easy to grab, you are more likely to actually use it and enjoy it! Which, of course, makes the little pleasures so much more pleasurable.

Using this time of year to sort through a medicine cabinet is also a great idea. check out my awesome tips for sorting and organizing the medicine cabinet. We are approaching flu season, which means coughs, colds, and flus are very common this time of year. It’s comforting to know that any symptom relief I need is either on a list to buy or not expired and in the cupboard! I also double-check my stock of tissues to ensure we have enough in the house to get through the winter runny noses.

Go through the house and find any lotions that may be stashed away. Through the winter, I get really dry hands. So, occasionally, I find lotion bottles in strange places, like in the kitchen cupboard, my desk, my bedside table, and even random coat pockets! As I find them, because I am searching for moisture on my hands, I check them for freshness of scent and clogged dispenser tips. If they’re not fresh smelling, I toss ’em! If the tip is clogged and maybe not worth declogging, I toss ’em!

The bathrooms are popular places in my house! It feels so good to have them organized and easy for everyone to use!

You can even steal a bit of time out of your decluttering/organizing to set up a couple of bathroom fall decorations! Use my trick of keeping one or two decorations in the bathroom cupboard for easy seasonal changes. (Just remember to only put out what you love and declutter the rest!)

So, hop on decluttering those bathrooms! Then, soak your troubles away and re-energize yourself with a relaxing bath and enjoy the feeling of having a little bit less in your home!

Thanks for coming home!
