Give yourself a chance to just be you!

Do you feel like you are struggling to keep up with life right now? Like you’re trying to get your ducks in a row, but, like one of my favourite memes, you can’t even find your ducks and you’re pretty sure one of them is actually a frog that randomly got added to your clan!

Life is flying by! It’s making it really hard to feel like you can catch your breath, let alone manage all of the stuff in the house, or even keep up with all the ins and outs of each person in the family!

Let’s face it, if you’re coasting – you are already behind!

So, how can we possibly do it all? How can we possibly keep everything organized? How can we possibly find time for ourselves?

No matter what, squeeze in something for you!

But, before you can do that, you need to find a hobby!

It’s great to sit there and use your time for meal planning or chore planning. It’s awesome if you can make the most of your time while you are waiting for your kiddos to finish their music lessons by grocery shopping or at least writing your list.

All these planning things are great to do, make us feel better, and even do make the evening flow more smoothly. BUT, if you don’t do them, a dinner will still get made! People gotta eat! The groceries will still get purchased. Sure, maybe you’ll have to get a bit more creative with what you come up with if you forget something at the store, but life will still move on, and you will find other options!

All these planning things are also not very rejuvenating! It’s not like meal planning sets your soul on fire and boosts your energy! I mean, great if it does! But if you’re like me, it’s just another chore, even if it does have great benefit.

It’s why you need a hobby!

All the talk about self care is great, but how many moms are truly prioritizing it?? Having a bath feels great, and it might even make a hard day feel a little better, but it’s probably not going to fill your bucket as much as other things you could do.

The best kind of hobby is one where you need to leave your house, sign up for an activity, and have other people relying on you to show up! This is probably the only way that you will actually make it a priority!

And yes, I started this post talking about how there’s no time to even breathe because the calendar is so full of this and that.

Hear me out…

If it’s on the calendar, and someone else is expecting you to show up, you’ll make it happen!

I bet that you’re not putting “have a relaxing bath” on that family calendar on the fridge! Even if you did, would you let yourself prioritize it? Maybe not. If your calendar says, “Mom’s volleyball practice” or “Mom’s guitar lesson” – you’re actually going to go!!

It might be scary to sign up for things, but it gives you a total and complete break from home/mom life! It gets you out of the house (with or without your partner) where you get to be a version of yourself where the others don’t automatically think, ‘Oh, that’s Jackson’s mom’ or ‘that’s Robert’s wife’. You are just you! And, THAT is empowering!

It can be scary to put yourself out there, but you will get a lot out of it in ways you didn’t even realize you need!

Do some soul searching. Think back to what you enjoyed as a kid. It doesn’t matter what it is, I bet there is a group out there somewhere, just for you!

Get out of your house, get out of your “hats,” and give yourself a chance to be you again! You may even find your household runs more smoothly because you’re doing something just for you!

Thanks for coming home!
