What holds you back, and how do you overcome it?

What are the kinds of messes you have in your home? What areas of your house overwhelm you every time you see them? What stops you or holds you back from just working through those problem areas?

My closet is always overwhelming to me, I just can’t seem to keep it tidy and organized. Truly, I just need less clothing!

How do you motivate yourself to keep going? What do you do to push yourself further? What do you do to keep tidying or decluttering when you reach the end of your day and your pillow is calling out to you?

I still swear by my timer. When I really don’t ‘feel’ like doing anything, some days, the only thing that works is setting that timer for 10 or 20 minutes, then suddenly I can force myself to work for that short period of time!

What do you do to reward yourself when something is done? Do you even reward yourself?

Honestly, I like to work hard just so I can do nothing! Or, more accurately, anything that’s not tidying! Whether it’s just so that I can play with the dog, play a game on my phone, or complete a craft project that has been in my way – I just want to do all of it!

So, I turn it around on you! What do you do? Let me know in the comments below!!

Thanks for coming home!

  1. I agree that short time blocks work well to keep the flow of staying on top of things. I find it much better to break down the bigger more overwhelming jobs into smaller shorter sessions.
Short sessions add up with consistency and before you know it you’ll have accomplished that big task.
I like the Work and Reward idea, even if it’s just to take a moment to step outside, take a few deep breaths, feel the sunshine and have a stretch.
