Embrace the adventure mindset!

If there is one thing that I end up passing on to my kids, I really hope that it is my adventure mindset.

I don’t mean adventure as in camping in the wilderness, though I do love that!

I mean adventure, as in trying new things or staying true to what they want out of life.

Things like signing up for an activity that interests them. Joining a team and participating in team events. Even things like asking their teacher for help or admiting they’ve made a mistake!

These little things actually require a huge amount of letting yourself be adventurous because it’s about putting yourself out there to give it a try, not really knowing whether it will be good or bad.

Being adventurous to me is all about just giving something a try. What can be so hard about trying something. It doesn’t mean you have to commit to a lifelong change. It might mean just trying something one time.

Every time my kids resist trying something, I can feel myself getting frustrated with them. It’s the quitting before trying that bothers me the most. Often, if I can figure out what their roadblock is and help them see that they can knock it down, then finally they can try (or they come up with another 10-99 more roadblocks for me to help them knockdown!!).

Generally, when they finally try… they actually enjoy themselves!

It’s so easy to stay doing the same old thing, eating the same old foods, or playing with the same old friends.

It takes adventure to try something new, experiment with new ingredients, or find new friends to hang out with.

Like my kids often discover, the best thing about trying something new is that it’s almost always worth it!

It boosts their confidence, and it gives them proof that it will be worth doing it again!

It’s the one thing I hope I can pass on to them!

Just always stay adventurous!

Thanks for coming home!
