The final result of the Room-box!

Ok, so I have reached the deadline that I set for myself for the Room-box.

For those of you who don’t know about it yet, read this first!

This bin is full of all the contents that used to be in this drawer. Here is a visual reminder!

Over the past two months, I started pulling out ONLY WHAT I ACTUALLY NEEDED/USED from the bin.

Then, instead of normal decluttering, where you keep what you love, you truly only add to the drawer AFTER you have used an item! It’s more of a backwards decluttering process.

You only keep what you use!

I gave myself two months. I figured that I would have cooked most of the meals that I typically make in that time to cover off the potential need for anything from the drawer. I also tried not to grab a second of the same thing if one was clean somewhere (even on the drying mat or not yet pulled out of the clean dishwasher).

I truly thought that at the end of the two months, I would end up with a full drawer again!

The idea is to strictly keep what I naturally use. Not what I hope to use one day or what I thought would be a cool tool that does one thing!

Now my drawer is WAY more manageable. And the best part is that I didn’t have to sort it or really think about it. If I used something and it got cleaned, it just went back into the drawer. Otherwise, everything stayed in the bin.

I changed the insert to this knife holder. The old one was never going to work in the drawer. Now the drawer is both safer and more organized.

And just look at all of those tools left in the bin! They were all taking up space or getting stuck when I tried to open the drawer, or they were covering up the tools I actually needed, meaning I had to dig for them!

A waste of space, and a waste of time!

The stuff I would have kept along with the stuff I would have gotten rid of now are all out of the house! They were all extra pieces of clutter in the house that I did not need, or even use! As proven by the Room-box!

I urge you to give it a try, especially with non-sentimental items! The kitchen or bathroom are perfect rooms to start with. If you have been feeling overwhelmed with stuff, why not just give it a try?

It removes each individual decision. It removes the idea of keeping stuff for the sake of keeping it or for the dream of using it one day. It’s just a simple method.

If you don’t use it, you don’t need it!

Now, to pick my next drawer!

Share your experience below! Did you try it out? Are you excited to give it a try? Where are you going to start??

Thanks for coming home!
