Embrace boredom

March break is a great time to force your kids to embrace some boredom!

It can even work for yourself on a weekend or short staycation!

If you can’t find a non tech thing that you get excited about doing, you may be giving your phone too much power over your life.

Embrace the boredom!

Find something that you can lose yourself in. Let yourself lose track of time. It’s easy to do that on your phone, but challenge yourself to do it without your phone or any device, for that matter!

Get lost in a puzzle, or a craft, or just any hobby that you are curious about or have wondered about or thought about trying.

I talk a lot about hobbies, but they are simply so important in this digital age. We forget that we can break the daily monotony and can find joy in other things when we are not glued to our devices all day. And they can be simple things like enjoying sitting and watching the birds while you sip a coffee. The pull of your phone is so strong that you may sit sipping your coffee outside while staring at your phone instead. You may not even notice the chirp of the birds because you’re so lost in your phone.

There is so much more to life than work and your device, yet it seems so many of us go to work, then come home and stare at a screen all night. We even wonder how the time has gone by so fast, or we use the excuse of not having enough time to do the things we actually want to do!

It’s amazing how creative and imaginative kids and adults can become if we just put down those devices from time to time!

Prioritize those fun things and forget about your technology.

Use a timer to force yourself to get bored. Set it so that you don’t use your phone for a whole hour! Just see what you end up doing!

Who knows what you could do with yourself or your time if you simply embrace the boredom!

Thanks for coming home!
