If you worked at a store at some point in your life, then you would have followed store opening rules or duties. Maybe even with whatever work you do, you may have and ‘arrive at work’ to do list. It might be something like, turn on lights, check emails, set up displays, restock, dust, wipe counters, and finally, open the doors to the public. There might be a similar routine for closing the store. Close and lock the door, put away stock from incorrect places, wipe down counters or cash area, clean windows of doors, sweep the floors, turn off the lights, and then double check the lock on the doors after you leave.
If you thought of your house as a store, how would you write your guidelines or rules for yourself. How would you write them for someone you might hire? Would they be different? Would you have different expectations from someone else rather than for yourself?
Create a morning/opening routine and an evening/closing routine for your household.
As far as putting away stock or inventory, it might turn into putting away personal belongings that don’t actually belong where they are! Get everyone involved. Grab a bin or basket and go room to room on the main floor or focus on the messiest room collecting all the stuff that doesn’t belong and get it all put away to reset the house!
Sometimes, thinking about it like a business takes that lazy procrastination out of the question and formalizes the routine enough to actually stick with it!
This is your house, make sure you’re working for it so that it can work for you!
