You can’t really fake your way through decluttering. As soon as people come over, they can tell. They might go to the bathroom and sneak a peak in the cupboard. They might need to hang up a coat, and if you say, “Oh, let’s just put coats here,” it might be a giveaway. They may even be able to tell based on where you keep your own shoes at the front door!
Needless to say, you either are left with a feeling of ‘wow, they’ve got so much stuff!’ Or ‘what a comfortable place to be.’
If there was a random time or two that I did some kind of fake tidy and shoved things in a drawer, I would inevitably need something from that drawer when people visit! Or the closet or cupboard or whatever space I decided to ram stuff into! Thanks Murphy, right??
You just have to keep facing the clutter!
There is no faking it!
The only way to feel more peace in your home is to face your clutter head on.
I also find that if I take too many days off in a row from decluttering, it builds up, and I no longer have the energy to start again!
Just face it, every day do a bit. When you’re making dinner, look in a cupboard. When you’re brushing your teeth, look in the drawer. When you’re getting dressed, look at your other clothes.
Face it! Each and every day!
Face it til you make it!
Don’t give up!
