Most years, I am way ahead of where I am today. Often, I have been baking, cooking, shopping AND wrapping, even finished Christmas cards, friends gifts, teacher gifts, and planned some crafts and holiday activities. I have felt way more ready with all the little ‘extras’ parents need to do for the big day!
This year, I have barely scratched the surface! Things keep popping up and warping my productivity!
So, as a treat for you, (and because procrastination wins sometimes!) I leave you with this frantic christmas chaos poem! Maybe it will help you get through this last week before the big day!
‘Twas the week before christmas, when all through the house
The mess from the kids was all strewn about.
The tree was all trimmed, but a star was nowhere
Mom hoped that the rest would all do their share
When out in the store, the people all scattered
It was getting so close to when christmas mattered!
From store to store I spent all my cash
My mind all a blur, like a big mish mash
No plan for my baking, I feel aloof
Wishing it was all done with a snap and a poof!
Flour and eggs and butter by the pound
Then my vanilla crashed to the ground!
My meal plan not done, indeed it was scary
The stress is too much for me to be merry
Speed cleaning each room, put the shoes in a row
I just want some time to watch a christmas show!
I must carry on, there’s just way too much work
I had to shop more, watch out for that jerk!
What to get teachers, nobody knows
Bus drivers, and coaches, what about those?
What is that in my throat? I feel a tickle
Getting sick right now, I’d be in a pickle!
Alas, I’ll push on and wrap through the night,
Good luck with your christmas, I hope it goes right!
Because, when you’re stressed about your Christmas plans, you might as well write a poem about it, right? Somehow, some way, it all comes together in the end because the people around you matter more than all the little stressors!
