Create a declutter-a-thon!

Get everyone in your house together and create a declutter-a-thon plan.

Have everyone pick an area of the house that they deem to be the clutter sore spot. Each person could pick 2 or 3 areas.

Split up the month of January so that each week or week and a half, each person is tackling a different cluttered area of the house.

Add in some friendly competitive incentive if you need to, like the first person done gets bragging rights for the month, or the last person done has to buy the others donuts on the last day of the month!

If your clutter is all mixed up, you may just need to pick 4-5 areas. Have everyone work together through the week to pair down the clutter.

Make a big push on getting as much clutter out the door as you can through January!

It will make you feel lighter, like less is in your way, and more free to do the things you actually want to do this year! It is a fantastic motivator to empower you to conquer other resolutions that you have for yourself in 2026!

Also, the more buy-in you have from the people in your house, the more they may actually help to keep it organized and less cluttered. Everyone may naturally pitch in more if they have all worked hard on getting it tidier.

Have a family meeting and figure out where the worst areas are. Figure out what will happen in what week and get rid of that clutter!!

If need be, you could always do another declutter-a-thon through the year if need be.

You could also help a friend who is a clutter bug get rid of their clutter by declaring a friend declutter-a-thon, especially if they complain about their clutter or ask for help with their stuff.
