As someone who did a big purge of my whole house in one week, I can asure you that it is a very daunting task! It seems like a great plan because in such a short amount of time you can end up with less stuff and move on to organizing what you have kept. But it also leads to burnout and decision fatigue from covering so much stuff in such a small span of time. Not to mention the stress of the mess! No matter what, decluttering leads to stuff feeling like it is everywhere all at once.
I have broken down the house into a 10-week plan for your decluttering! It will be easier to manage and it will still get your entire home decluttered from top to bottom!
We’ll start in the kitchen, work our way to the bathrooms, move on to the living areas, then head into the bedrooms and closets. We will then try to conquer the office and perhaps the mountains of paperwork, then get into the entryway of the home. From there we will head into the dungeon areas like the garage, attick, basement or sheds!
I will share some strategies for staying tidy and some shopping tips so that it all doesn’t build up again!
My goal is to break the house down so that it doesn’t feel like you are trying to empty the ocean with a little spoon! This is to help you take responsibility and ownership and still make some progress!
If you follow my plan for the 10 weeks, your house will look completely different by the end of May! That seems doable, right?? Imagine, a house that is easier to live in and maintain, all before the summer starts!!
Stay tuned for week 1 next week! We will start in the heart of the home, the kitchen!
