Week 1: The ‘expired’ kitchen!

Welcome to week 1 of your 10-week plan to decluttering your entire home!

Declutter Expired Food

This week is all about the food in your home. It may all be in the kitchen, but if not, check anywhere that you have food – whether you have a downstairs pantry, a fridge in the garage or, any other food storage outside of your main kitchen.

Think of your canned goods, your spices, and your drink mixes, if you use any. Think of your grains and baking supplies like sprinkles! Think of the sauces in the door of the fridge! Think of long term freezer stored goods!

The idea of this week is to get rid of ALL of your expired food!

Declutter Expired ‘Things’

The other expired things in the kitchen include broken things! If you are still using things that are broken, it’s time to say goodbye! They have reached the end of their life and are no longer supporting you!

So, toss ’em!

Toss warped plastic containers and water bottles that are missing parts! Toss chipped glasses or mugs, handles that are broken on pots, and any kind of rusted pan!! These ‘expired’ things are taking up valuable space in your kitchen!

Declutter the Mess

While going through each space to find the expired food and expired stuff, declutter some of the messier areas. Think of spaces like the junk drawer! This space needs regular maintenance to keep it clutter free! Think functional junk. Junk you will actualy use on a weekly basis! That’s the only kind of stuff that needs to be in that drawer!

Focus your time!

Spend no more than 10 minutes in each cupboard. This decluttering is the easy stuff – it’s already gone bad or broken!! Don’t dwell on your decision making at this point, this is just ‘toss and move on’ territory! No need for second guessing!

So, Week 1, here we come! Get a handle on all of that stuff that is literally wasting space in your kitchen!

Good luck! Let me know how it goes, share your stories!

Thanks for coming home!
