Here is week 4! Have you been following along? Let me know how your decluttering journey is going so far. Share below!!
For this week, we concentrate on all of the flat surfaces!
Think coffee tables, book shelves, fireplace mantels, collector displays, entertainment cupboards, gaming consoles and games, and even boardgames and books.
The living rooms are where the entertainment happens so make sure you are only holding on to things you actually use and things that provide you with good entertainment. If you no longer watch DVDs, consider getting rid of all or at least half of them. If you have a bunch of CDs but only listen to music through a smart device, consider getting rid of those old CDs. If you don’t actually flip through magazines, toss them. Go through your books, boardgames, puzzles, collections and trinkets, and anything else that sits on a shelf or a table in your living or entertainment rooms.
The idea is simply to make it easy and functional to use the entertainment items that you value and to show off the items that really mean something special to you. Everything else is extra!
Another thing to consider here are electronics. If you have a charging centre consider labeling the cords. If you find old cords that you don’t have a purpose for, consider getting rid of them. If you keep charging bricks try to set up a charging chart, like rotating which bricks get charged. You can also have some fun here and set up a device jail. Use it to enjoy some family screen free time.
Another thing that can get overlooked but may end up in a living room is a family notice board like a magnet board or white board with reminders or school papers or various lists. Sort through them and condense them and get rid of anything that is outdated or no longer relevant.
Make your living space for actual living and fun, don’t waste that space for storage!
You can even sit down as a family and talk about what each person enjoys to ensure that the value of what you keep is high and that no one misses the stuff you’re getting rid of.
Good luck this week! It could be tough if you have a lot of shelves and stuff in your main living areas. Stick with it!
