I absolutely love kids! They do and say the most amazing things because they always speak from the heart, good or bad!
I recently snuck out of town for another wilderness adventure but while I was loading up my gear, ready for the hike to the next lake, I overheard a kid who was with his family say, “the last time was too easy, so I’m going to take even heavier things this time!” I couldn’t help but smile!
Isn’t that just the most refreshing thing you’ve heard?? How many times have you heard an adult say (or even have you yourself said), the last time I did something it was too easy so I’m going to make my life harder by choosing to make it harder for myself by myself!?
Let me guess…almost never?
Unless you are a crossfit junkie or are used to going above and beyond to challenge yourself, I bet very rarely do you think of making your life harder on purpose just to see if you can do it!
Kids are awesome that way. They are always pushing their boundaries (again, good or bad!) They are always trying to compete with themselves or others to be the best or the fastest, or the strongest or the whatever-est they can be!
If adults kept that mental attitude, just imagine the possibilities.
Adults are far more likely to say, “last time was too hard, so I will do less this time!”
If we continue to make our lives easier or more comfortable, then we never really get to a great fulfilled life. Staying in our comfort zone and becoming complacent are the biggest pitfalls when it comes to clutter. You get used to the clutter. It becomes, comfortable, in a really weird way – all the while still stressing us out!
What if you took some time to declutter and organize a space, then said, “Hey, that was pretty easy, I’m just gonna put another hour in over here before I go do something else!”
Or, if you took the time to organize your whole closet then said to yourself, “ok, well that one is done now and it wasn’t that bad, maybe I will quickly do a couple dresser drawers as well!”
Suddenly, you would have a room practically decluttered all at once!
And I’m going to go out on a limb and say it will still be easier than lugging around 60-80 lbs of gear or a canoe over uneven ground for over 600 meters!
Next time you do something, ask yourself if it was easy the previous time. Challenge yourself by making it just a little bit harder this time or pushing yourself a little bit more!
Remind yourself that you are capable of doing hard things!

Great post. 😁
