Make your very own maple taffy!

As promised, I wanted to share with you the easiest way to make a delicious treat using fresh snow.

This method for making maple syrup taffy doesn’t taste quite the same as the taffy from maple festivals around – which is still probably my favourite way to consume maple syrup, but this is a VERY close second AND super easy to make!!

So here you go!

Depending on how much taffy you want to make, you can boil between 1-2 cups of 100% pure maple syrup. Boil for about 5 mins, or if you have a candy thermometer, boil until you reach 235oF. I don’t have a thermometer, so I simply boil it for the 5 mins. It gets bubbly, darkens, and reduces a bit in volume.

We then take our pot outside to the fresh snow and hand out the popsicle sticks. As a tip, if you pack the snow down as much as you can, the syrup is less likely to melt down the snow. It also makes it easier to twirl up the taffy. Just pour the syrup into strips and let everyone roll the syrup up with their sticks. This part can get a little messy depending on the age, and maybe spirit, of the people collecting the taffy. 2 cups of maple syrup will give more than enough for 6-8 people to have a good treat!

It’s oh so yummy!! I will have to update with a photo next time I make it, I must have been too excited to eat it to stop for a photo!

Step up this treat by making some of the snow ice cream, then drizzling the syrup taffy on top.

Now, we just need a dumping of snow!

Thanks for coming home!
