You are always one decision or one moment away from a different life!

Have you ever thought about your life that way? It’s kind of empowering, right? I mean, literally, at any moment in time, you are just one decision away from an entirely different life. You could decide to move, you could decide to quit your job, you could decide to go back to school, you could even decide to start a new blog!!!

This thought has kept me kind of grounded over the years. It’s pretty comforting to know that if I am having a hard time, I can simply change it by making one different choice!

If I am feeling miserable about my messy house, I can spend some time cleaning it!

If I am feeling unhappy at work, I can ponder quitting by weighing the options. Usually I realize that my job is actually not bad enough to take extreme action, so then I can decide to accept that some parts of work aren’t as fun! AND, that’s ok!

If I am unhappy with the kids, I can decide to get silly with them which makes us all have fun!

If I am feeling unhealthy and self-conscious, I can do a workout or eat a healthy snack.

There is so much power in knowing that just one decision can change everything!

The same can help with things that are out of your control. Let’s say you get laid off. You can still make a new decision every day that will trickle into big changes. Maybe you decide to call an old colleague that left your company years ago – who knows where opportunity will knock!

Let’s say you failed a big exam. You decide the next step, retake the course, and try harder, or maybe that course direction isn’t for you.

Either way, you have the power to make that one next decision that has the power to change everything about how you deal with it or how you see the problem.

Next time you are struggling with something, think about one decision you can make to flip it around. What is one thing you could change about the situation, or how can you change your attitude about what it is if you can’t change anything else.

What is one thing you can do right now that will change your life or your mood at this moment? Share in the comments!

One thing I am going to do is clean the kitchen around the sink so that I can come down to a clean and tidy kitchen to make my coffee tomorrow!

Thanks for coming home!

  1. That’s an empowering thought.
I am going to incorporate something fun into every day. Whether it be as simple as trying an easy new recipe, teaching my dog a new trick, reading a book or magazine, or shopping with my daughters. Just finding something that makes me look forward to the following day.
