52 week decluttering challenge that will help you get rid of over 1,300 items!

This challenge can be started at any time. I always say that the best time to start a decluttering challenge is the same moment you feel overwhelmed with stuff. It is the best moment to really use your motivation to get rid of stuff! Take your overwhelm and turn it into action!

So, let’s say you are starting this challenge today. This would be week one! This week, get rid of one large item, like a piece of furniture that isn’t serving you anymore or some other large item that is in your way or just wasting space in your house. I suggest a large item to make it more satisfying to get started.

Next week would be week two. Week two, you need to get rid of two things.

Week three get rid of three things, week four get rid of four things and so on, until you reach 52 weeks. During week 52, you will get rid of 52 items!

Do you realize how much this process will snowball? Allowing you to get rid of your stuff??

By week 25, 325 items will have left your house!

It may not seem like a lot, but you are also creating the momentum of getting rid of things. Perhaps you are even creating different, more intentional shopping habits! By week 25, you may also be using your time differently or focusing your energy on different adventures!

By the end of week 52, you will have eliminated 1,378 items!!!!

(if not more, depending on how much you push yourself or how much extra you decide to get rid of!)

Can you believe it, though?

The only thing that matters with this challenge is doing it each and every week. Each week seems fairly straightforward, only as much as 52 items by the last week. But it’s the total that becomes noticeable to others visiting your house!

So, week one! Find something that is big and in the way on a daily basis, and find a way to get rid of it!

If you want to capture your hard work during the challenge, you could take a picture each week of the stuff you are getting rid of. OR, you can just say peace out and goodbye to it all without having to think about it again!

Like I said above, the best time to start this kind of challenge is when you are overwhelmed with your stuff and you feel like you can’t move around or tidy your house easily. That’s when you will get the most out of those first few weeks!

The next best time to start a challenge like this is whenever you mark it on your calendar! Mark week one and just start that week! It can be tomorrow, next week or next month. But write it on your calendar! Make it bold and put a big, bright coloured bubble around it so it stands out and you won’t ignore it!

When you do decide to start, keep track of what week you are in and keep working week by week!
