The unproductive reset! What it is and why you need it!

Have you ever heard of a completely unproductive reset? It’s meant to take you back to your calm baseline. It’s meant to reset your system and get you out of the fight or flight productivity mode we constantly find ourselves in these days!

This isn’t about you getting up at the crack of dawn and doing a high intensity workout. This isn’t a time for you to research all the ways you can be more productive or read a self help book. This isn’t about something you do in tiny blocks to get little bits of ‘rest’ during your day. This isn’t for doom scrolling or social media on your phone. In fact, it’s better if it doesn’t even invlolve your phone!

This is simply a 60-minute reset where you get to do absolutely nothing productive!

No to do list to follow, no habit tracker, no journaling; only your 60 minute timer of nothing!

No guilty feelings, just whatever drives your nothingness!

Simply enjoy 60 minutes of doing absolutely nothing of consequence!

Try sitting with a coffee in the yard and watch the world around you!

Try actively listening to your favourite tunes by just laying still and letting the music take you down memory lane.

Try letting youself get lost doing a craft or a puzzle.

The key is that if it feels like a chore – DON’T DO IT!! At least for this one hour!

Often these days, we are all going a mile a minute, going here, there and everywhere. We’re chronically stressed! Stressed about money, health, family, or politics. Even things like making the healthy meals, parenting the right way, getting more work done in the day, keeping the house tidy and clean, keeping the grass well manicured, doing too little extra curriculars or even doing too many! It’s constant!

This unproductive reset is your pressure release! This is the nervous system reset that your body is telling you that you need, whether you recognize it or not.

This unproductive time lets you unplug from your phone and lets your mind wander around on it’s own. It may allow some processing time, it may allow your creative juices to flow again. It may even light up a pathway in you that you didn’t even know you were desperate to follow!

The unproductive reset and rest in general actually helps you balance life better. It doesn’t need to be something you earn after your big to do list is done. Make it a pre-requisite of starting your to do list! Give yourself a calm and energized baseline to work from. Give your body and mind some peace to be strong and efficient when it comes to tackling your daily to do’s.

So, tell me! What would you do with one hour of completely unproductive time? Is there anything you already indulge in but feel guilty doing it? Be proud of it! Set your timer and do it, then get on with your life!

Thanks for coming home!
