Whenever a single day holiday comes up, my first thought is always, “ooh, a day off, what can we get done?” or “Great, what can we cross off the to do list?”
One day holidays seem like a great way to catch up on that never ending list and feel like you got something done with your time!
But, I find lately, I actually prefer to slow the day down and try to focus on quality time!
How often do we get bonus days to share with the people we love? The mess can wait for a day, but maybe spending time with your kids can’t. They will never be the age they are now, again! Spend time with your spouse! Spend time with your parents! That time is precious and it passes right before our eyes.
It’s so easy to think that there will be time for family after the house is set, but there may not be.
So, use the holiday to slow your life down. Savour your coffee a little longer, eat your food a little slower, sit on the porch or the couch and just talk to your kids.
Don’t hold on to the guilt of getting nothing done. Let it go! Soak in the summer! Go for a hike, play at the park, get together with friends, enjoy some fireworks!
Fully emerse yourself in the day. Be present while also making cherished memories.
Go guiltlessly and enjoy your holiday to the fullest!
